After a 30-year career in the educational field, I recently retired and chose the travel and event planning industry—specifically weddings—as a post retirement field. Determined to enhance my knowledge, I enrolled in a specialized wedding course, Courses for Success, through which I earned a professional certificate.
In addition to my professional knowledge, I have gained hands-on experience as a referring travel agent since 2007. My work as a travel agent has allowed me to unite my travel and wedding planning skills, all in pursuit of my professional reinvention. For instance, because of my extensive travel agent experience I am able to assist couples with destination weddings. I can also set up an online "honeymoon wish” registry using my travel website. Through that registry, guests can purchase vacation gifts for the couples rather than household items. The registry ensures a couple's perfect honeymoon—including meals, airline upgrades, spa treatments, helicopter tours, entertainment and flowers for their suite—but most importantly helps to offset the typical honeymoon expenses.
Also, for many years, I have been passionate about arts and crafts and began volunteering for various functions where I was able to display my creations. After receiving numerous compliments from family and friends, I decided to pursue a business ownership that would encompass my creative ideas for festive celebrations. Pop Decor, LLC. coordinates all types of events and provides unique customized decor that includes welcome bags, party favors, and tablescapes to match a desired color scheme or theme. Since starting that business, I have been asked to design centerpieces, favors, and gift bags for various events, including baby showers and weddings, and I have consistently received positive feedback.
